Lots of renovations underway this fall at Cape Ann Golf Club with course updates on 2nd 4th 5th & 9th Holes!

5th Hole - Renovations

This season’s course updates finish off the 5th Hole with a NEW Red Tee Box offering players an elevated area with fresh angle and sight lines to the green.

 
 

4th Hole - Renovations

Players will enjoy the ever-spectacular ocean vista from a newly enhanced Blue Tee at top/back of the 4th.

 
 

9th Hole - Renovations

A spacious reconfiguration for our 9th Tee - which features sweeping scenic views across the marsh from lower ground.

 
 

2nd Hole - Renovations

This project features a beautiful NEW Tee Box upping play at the 2nd Hole

 

Club Updates 2024

1st Hole - Renovations

Further enhancements made to the 1st Hole this year add complexity to the existing design with two new Fairway Bunker obstacles situated along the approach, and two new Stacked Wall Bunkers with added height located adjacent to the green.

 
 

7th Hole - Renovations

This fall project features a complete rebuild of the Blue Tee located along the edge of a spectacular water viewpoint - leveling and doubling the size of the area to create flexibility and better movement around the surface for play.

 
 

5th Hole - Renovations

Further refinements added to the 5th Hole this spring include new bunker with obstacles at top - providing subtle challenges with beautiful views of the water on this scenic portion of the course. 

 
 

4th Fairway – Additional Contouring 

This project puts finishing touches on landscape contouring work completed last year along the 4th Fairway - with a new section of fence to help define right of way for carts on a steep edge of the hillside. 

 
 

New Golf Rental Cars

Course updates began at New Year with the arrival of a fresh new fleet of golf rental cars for our Club - featuring a smooth, low emission, quiet ride with lots of zip, charging ports and updated GPS systems in each vehicle. We hope you enjoy the ride!

2nd Hole - Renovations

This early spring renovation project features contouring for a new grass cart path along outer edge, reconfiguration of existing sand traps beneath trees with addition of two new grass trap challenges on back side of site.  

 
 

3rd Hole - Renovations

Renovations at the 3rd include the addition of two new sand traps for a total of four now off this hole. Overall access is improved with leveling on original traps and front wall grading eased at approach.

This season, three thousand feet of drainage, new bunker and restored teeing ground features - add to a series of renovations now completed at Cape Ann Golf Club over the last six years. Under direction of Jerry Deemer, Country Golf Inc., phased updates have been thoughtfully implemented with a cohesive, ongoing vision to enhance play, while preserving the character of Skip Wogan’s original design for Cape Ann’s beautiful seaside course constructed in 1931.

8th Hole - Teeing Ground Restoration

This project restores a special teeing ground area near the old Oak tree at the 8th Hole.  When markers are up for play — our new site steps up game challenges and highlights spectacular views across the marsh.

 
 
 

5/6th HOLES – Landscape & Bunker Terrain Renovations

The focus of this project builds upon 6th Hole Waste Bunker installation (2021) - further sculpting landscape between 5th & 6th Holes and reshaping bunker terrain with waved obstacles to create new opportunities/challenges for play.

2021 Club Updates - Renovations on the 1st, 8th, 9th Holes & New Waste Bunker Off 6th

For many years … Cape Ann’s course has been conserved but not altered significantly from the original character of Eugene "Skip" Wogan’s design, since its construction in 1931. Over the last five years a series of renovations have been completed under the direction of Jerry Deemer of Country Golf, Inc. who has helped strategically re-imagine some areas of the course - subtlety sculpting the grounds, reshaping tee boxes and maximizing opportunities to offer more challenging levels of play – while preserving the original character and design. Jerry and his crew wrapped up work this June with the addition of:

  • A new Waste Bunker located left of the 6th Hole

  • Contouring along the fairway off the 9th Hole Waste Bunker

  • Renovations at the 9th Hole including remodeled Bunker in front of the green with all NEW ladies Tee Box, Waste Bunker at right, and Pot Bunker feature on left side that is circular in shape with deep packed sand.

There are now six Waste Bunkers across the course where you can ground your club - four of these are new this season.

 
 
 

2020

Cape Ann Golf Club had a busy and challenging year with ongoing changes and cooperative adaptations by members and staff for lots of great play to continue safely on the course throughout the pandemic. Annual updates planned for the course continued with reshaping & leveling on the 2nd, 4th & 9th Tee Boxes.

Cape Ann Golf Club completed a full renovation of Fairway Pub this year. Menus feature delicious pub-style fare created with favorite Stavros Family recipes. Come enjoy a meal or drink in our newly renovated restaurant and bar overlooking the most scenic, challenging public course on the North Shore!

2018

Annual Cape Ann Golf Club course updates continue with a focus on drainage improvement projects under the supervision of Jerry Deemer, Country Golf Inc.

Over the year Cape Ann Golf Club purchased NEW golf club rental sets and a fresh fleet of golf carts for the course – each featuring a smooth comfortable ride with on the go phone charging ports.

2016

During the fall of 2016, Cape Ann Golf Club completed renovations to the first hole and installed a Pine Valley Waste Bunker between the fifth and sixth fairway. This project was implemented under the direction of Jerry Deemer, renowned golf course builder and owner of Country Golf Inc., based in Traverse City, Michigan. Mr. Deemer has worked on many prestigious golf course and athletic field construction projects, including Salem Country Club (in preparation of 2017 US Senior Open Championship) and renovations to historic Fenway Park in collaboration with Roger Bossard in 2005.
